Day 1 of the US Open – Surfing

The first 12 heats in the men’s main draw of the US Open of Surfing have finally gone underway with the remaining 12 heats to go up tomorrow. Today’s heats had many upsets with one of them being Huntington Beach native, Kanoa Igarashi, winning his heat and upsetting two veteran CT surfers.

Here are the winners from the first 12 heats of Round 1 and will be advancing onto Round 2:

Heat 5: Kanoa Igarashi (Hometown Hero: USA) & Nathan Hedge (USA)

Heat 6: Marco Fernandez (Brazil) & Ian Gouveia (Brazil)

Heat 7: Carlos Munoz (Costa Rica) & Alejo Muniz (Brazil)

Heat 8: Tim Reyes (USA) & Parker Coffin (USA)

Heat 9: Fredrick Patacchia (Hawaii) & Steven Pierson (French Polynesia)

Heat 10: Ryan Callinan (Australia) & Hiroto Ohhara (Japan)
